BASIC INFO

What is Pollarrydoomi and why is it shipped?

Pollarrydoomi is a combination of Barruni (Barry X Uni), Pollarry (Polly X Barry), and Doomi (Doom X Uni). The ship centers around the fact those 4 characters experience a "love train" where one is in love with one, and that one is in love with someone else, and that someone else is in love with someone else (Doom -> Uni -> Barry -> Polly). Barruni is the only one of these ships that I've confirmed to actually be endgame, hence why Ally is a canon character.

What about the AU is canon?

Barry and Uni being married is canon and Ally and Howie's existences are canon, but all of the other kids besides kit and pup are not canon to Sparklecare's lore. Uni being non-binary in the future is also canon. The backstory of "how it all ended" described in the AU is also not a reflection of canon events. Characters that will actually die in the canon comic are alive in this AU, since this is a "happy ending perfect world" AU - in other words, just because someone is alive here, it doesn't mean they have plot armor for the actual comic. Barry and Uni are the only two characters who have confirmed plot armor for Sparklecare.

Are all the ships in this besides the ones between Cometcare also not canon?

The other ships in this besides ones that are already canon (Moodies, Melcyn, Jorange, etc) are not being confirmed as canon just because they're in this AU. This also means their kids may or may not be canon. The reason I'm not confirming this is because some of the characters die and their kids may not actually exist, you just wouldn't know! This actually also applies to the already canon ship's kids as well.

READING GUIDE (IMPORTANT)

How To Read

Unfortunately, due to the nature of Tumblr's post sorting, it's easiest to read the AU on a desktop device rather than the Tumblr app itself. However, it is not impossible; it would just require scrolling through the entire tag for an arc. For this reason, I included links to each arc in the pinned post of the blog.

It is possible to read an arc chronologically on a mobile browser, but unfortunately all of arc 1 and most of arc 2 have "broken" posts on mobile devices and when you click on the images in photosets they may disappear. This is because originally I was using the legacy editor for comic updates, I have no idea why legacy editor posts are broken like this - but unfortunately, unless I reposted the entire thing, there is no way around this. However, it is possible to zoom in on the pages in the browser to expand them. This issue is not present in arc 3 onwards, you should be able to expand the images just fine there.

I don't currently have a way to fix this issue due to the nature of Tumblr's coding and I haven't been able to find any resources that fix this problem. Thank you for understanding and I'm sorry for this reader inconvenience.

COMMON AU QUESTIONS

(WILL BE UPDATED, this is just a place I answer common/important questions about the AU/its lore as I receive them)

Basic questions

Is there an update schedule?

Unlike the main comic, there's no official update schedule for this AU blog, I kind of just post when I feel like it. Updates are pretty regular though unless there's a designated hiatus going on.

When will the next arc release?

There are no set/definite release dates for each arc as this is not a schedule-based comic, but historically I tend to start arcs not long after the previous one ends.

Are the Cometkids/other characters safe for kinning?

You can kin any of them EXCEPT Ally, Eve, Howie, and Scrap because Ally is my fursona - Eve is my self insert - and Howie is the boyfriend of my fursona (Ally) and Scrap is the boyfriend of my self insert (Eve) and I would feel really weird about people kinning my sona/self insert's boyfriends. Please respect this boundary, they're really personal to me.

Are the Cometkids/other characters safe to have as F/Os?

All the adult Cometkids/nearfamily/other cast besides Ally Howie, and Scrap are OK to have as F/Os, but please do not do this with the minors.

Are the side patients, Chunklings, and former staff in the AU?

Yes, all the former patients and former staff (besides Cuddles obviously) exist in the AU somewhere.

Are the families of Barry and Uni in the AU?

They are in the AU as well.

Lore questions

Why is Uni called "mom"?

In the future, Uni identifies as transfeminine non-binary and uses feminine nouns (mom, Miss/Mrs, sister, wife, girl, etc) and any pronouns (but primarily she/her). Uni also does not identify as a gay man or gay but can be described as queer with a masc preference.

Why is Hemera married to Caroline? Isn't she aro?

Caroline and Hemera's relationship is queerplatonic in nature, their bond is not romantic despite being in a relationship/married. This also extends to Hemera's other partners.

What is nearfamily?

Nearfamily is like "stepfamily" for polyamorous relationships on Spinch. It means that technically you aren't related, but someone in your blood family (parents or siblings) are connected to them through polyamory. EXAMPLE: Barry and Uni are Ally's parents. Ally isn't related to Doom or Polly, but her parents are married to them, so Doom and Polly are her nearparents.

How are Hemera and Carrie nearfamily to the Comets if they're connected through polyamory?

Caroline is dating Doom and Uni, and they each have kids with each other.

How can Caroline date Uni or Doom if she's a lesbian?

Because Uni is non-binary and not male. She is NB and more fem-aligned than masc-aligned. Doom is also agender and not masc-aligned despite using masculine nouns.

Why is everything mentioning/referencing the hospital being censored out?

Are any of the characters genders/sexualities different?

The only character who changes is Uni, which is explained above.

How do the other parents feel about Doom and Uni being with Carrie (etc)?

All parties in the Comet's polycule consent to their individual partnerships, everyone is okay with it.

Do the half-Cometkids (Norma and Blair) not live with the Comets? (based on the fact they're visiting)

They do, they have rooms at both houses. In the intro arc, Carrie was just dropping them off and decided to take it as an opportunity to bring Hemera and Chloe along for a short visit.

Does Cream have ARFID?

Cream doesn't have an ARFID diagnosis explicitly, but I have it myself and I project my experiences with struggling to eat onto her, which is why she has the traits of ARFID.

Why is Uni afraid of aliens?

Answered in this post from arc 2.

How do the Comets afford their big house?

The Comet parents have 4 separate incomes and can afford their bills and support their children this way.

Even if Cometcare itself isn't canon, is the East Eroid incident canon to Spinch lore?

Yes, the East Eroid incident happened on Spinch canonically, it just has nothing to do with anything in the canon comic, but details about it are obviously altered for AU storytelling purposes.

Why are there metal detectors at the airport in arc 3?

^{(probably the most insane thing on this FAQ but it felt worthy of inclusion anyways)}

The Things That Caused Airports To Have Metal Detectors did and do not happen on Spinch, but they exist there not only to make our identifying with their experiences easier but also because having safety measures like that is just kind of common sense (and as we know, though they are still stupid, anthries are a smidgen less-stupid than humans).

Who is the green guy at the end of arc 2?

What do the characters sound like? (for dubbing purposes or other things)

In this post from arc 4, it is revealed that the former victims of the hospital all don't know what happened to him.

How is the staff not in jail?

In this post from arc 4, it is revealed that the staff members have freedom thanks to the hospital being covered up by the government. They had to legally change their names and were put under witness protection to avoid having their backgrounds looked into.

Much like their father Barry, Chem really loves science, specifically Chemistry and robotics. They like the concept of finding answers to questions yet unanswered through science. They surprisingly get along with and have a good relationship with essentially everyone in the house, which is a very unique experience, because most of the kids dislike at least someone there -- Chem even gets along with Eve, who is usually mean to others.

Barry is a physicist (specifically an AMO scientist) at the East Eroid National Laboratory. He loves his job and his family and tries his best, but oftentimes the kids find his over enthusiasm for some things to be a bit embarrassing - and honestly, he's just good at embarrassing his kids somehow in general. He tries hard to get everyone together to bond because he knows things can be tense, but sometimes worries he's not trying hard enough.

Uni is a hopeful, high-spirited mother with a endless loving heart that can emotionally connect with everyone in the entire family, whether they're her kid or not. Aside from parenting, Uni does digital art stuff and has a KneeTube channel where she plays The Zims. Despite her striving for happiness and positivity, it can be inferred by some that something isn't quite right under the surface.

Polly is a physical artist that uses various mediums to create sculptures out of random junk. They still struggle with TUC, but the same old management system of remembering things still does its job, and plus, he has a whole family now to help remind him of stuff. Polly's poor memory gives them a bit of a detachment from... the past, and it doesn't seem to affect them as much as others anymore.

Doom does clean-up animation for a TV network's animation studio. He still enjoys emo culture and emo music and never really grew out of that passion. Pursuing their dreams in art really helped their mental state, and having his family and partner's support also keeps him with a more positive outlook on life, but he still struggles with deepset insecurities and anxieties that never seemed to fade.

Norma loves insects, arachnids, and all sorts of creepy crawlies. She hates when people are unkind to or misunderstand them. She also loves emo music and dressing in all-black clothes. She's Eve's best friend and they cause lots of trouble together, but Norma isn't naturally a mean person, really she just does it to make Eve happy.

Blair is a self-proclaimed aspiring paranormal investigator and is all about spooky stuff like cryptids and ghosts. Despite her interest in the paranormal, Blair is a bit of a scaredy-cat, and gets spooked easily. She insists this doesn't say anything about her skills as a paranormal investigator. She's also really into conspiracy stuff.

Chloe is a lot like Hemera with her admiration and appreciation for nature, but also a lot like Carrie (when she was younger) in the sense that she likes getting into high-stakes dangerous and chaotic situations, often with hopes of impressing or being like her big sister Norma who she admires a lot. She sees Eve and Norma and thinks the way they act out is so cool, much to Hemera's dismay.

Carrie is a cinematographer and film enthusiast, particularly stuff of the creepy/horror nature. She likes to work on internet ARGs as well as making creepy short films. Her nature is very composed and placid, and none of the kids know or could ever guess how she used to be. Carrie hates that the other parents never want to talk about the past, though -- she feels pretending it never happened doesn't make it better.

Hemera is a botanist that works at a botanical garden in East Eroid. She's very passionate about her work and loves spending time with her family. She's trying to get over those overprotective habits that once caused many problems for her, but when it's her 12 year old daughter that's getting herself into dangerous situations, she can't help it... Caroline actually thinks those concerns are justified, though, as she worries about Chloe as well.

ABOUT

Howie is Ally's boyfriend and childhood best friend. He's silly, upbeat, wholesome, and REALLY loves cogs. Pup has dreams of being a veterinarian someday because of how much pup loves ferries and looking after them. He talks in a cute high-pitched silly voice constantly despite his actual voice being pretty deep because pup likes it more. He loves Ally with all his heart and soul and would do anything for kit, and it's mutual.

Carl is Sly's internet boyfriend. He's an artist too (particularly a ferrie artist of course) and loves video games and anime, especially the Orbemon series from the trading cards to games and anime spinoffs. He's a very gentle giant and extremely supportive and patient of Sly with his issues and does his best to always make sure Sly feels like he has someone he can turn to. They live very far apart, but Sly is closer with him than anyone.
